New York resident clocked doing almost double the speed limit in Burlington

Burlington OPP issued a ticket for nearly double the posted speed limit early this morning (May 15).

A 36-year-old driver from New York City was charged with speeding as police clocked them traveling at 199 km/hr in a posted 100km/hr zone.

The driver received a 14-day vehicle impoundment as a result.

Although they are a resident of New York City, this ticket will transfer over and still show up as demerit points accrued against the driver at the DMV considering Ontario and New York’s reciprocity agreement.

This agreement allows police to continue enforcing traffic violations if the driver leaves the province.

Ontario also has a reciprocity agreement with Michigan.
