New way to pay and shop local with Brampton downtown gift card program

Shoppers have a new way to pay and support downtown Brampton businesses with the Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card.

The Downtown Brampton BIA has taken its Downtown Dollars program into the 21st century, trading in physical vouchers for reloadable gift cards that can be spent at participating businesses downtown.

The Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card can be spent with multiple downtown businesses, including restaurants, stores, health and wellbeing services, and arts/cultural venues.

Over $50,000 worth of paper vouchers have been purchased through the program since first launching in 2020, but the BIA says dollars were easily lost, customers weren’t able to get change when using the vouchers and businesses found it time-consuming to redeem the dollars.

“Our new, modern Gift Card is easier for everyone,” Suzy Godefroy, Executive Director of the BIA said in a release.
Gift Cards can be purchased online with delivery direct to the recipient, or in person from the BIA Office on Queen Street West.

Gift Cards can be purchased online and mailed directly to the recipient, or they can be picked up in person from the BIA Office at 7 Queen St. West in Brampton.

More than 50 businesses have signed up for the program ranging from restaurants, specialty stores, services and more including Dum Dums Sports Bar and Grill, Encanto Beauty Salon, Segovia Coffee Co., and Rejuve Massage Therapy Clinic.

Dolcezza Cakes has been part of the program using the paper vouchers but owner Pragati Karnik says they are looking forward to the new cards.

“I think the Gift Card will be a great gift and will also be useful for people wanting to budget because they can put a set amount on the Gift Card,” owner Pragati Karnik said. “Brampton is growing and the Gift Card really will help people to discover new businesses, with the benefit spread out right across the downtown core.”
