New Wave stalwarts A Flock Of Seagulls headline Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival

An enduring band that reached the top of the charts is coming to Burlington.

A Flock Of Seagulls will headline the main stage at the Sound of Music Festival (SOM) on the opening night of performances on June 15.

Emerging from England in the post-punk days of the early 80s, A Flock Of Seagulls was one of the first New Wave bands to score a global hit with I Ran (So Far Away) in 1982, a song that has since become a staple on retro radio and has led the band on a career that continues to gather a loyal audience.

And while the A Flock Of Seagulls has produced several successful records over the years, it was the unique look of frontman Mike Score that helped seal their status as pop culture icons.

With a gravity-defying hairstyle that was at the forefront of fashion back in the day, Score’s “look” continues to be a marker for those looking to reference the 80s when it comes to movies, television commercials, and artwork.

Originating in 1980, SOM is one of Burlington’s most welcomed summer events and takes place this year at Spencer Smith Park from June 15-18. Along with the concerts in the park, SOM also includes a parade and a street festival.

As for the concerts, other acts that will take centre stage this year include Men Without Hats, Lee Aaron, Lindsay Ell, I Mother Earth, Crash Test Dummies and (Burlington’s own) the Spoons.
