A Brampton mall is getting a new 14,000 square-foot Walmart Supercentre, expected to open in 2027.
Earlier this year, INsauga.com reported that the retail giant which already operates five supercentres in Brampton was eyeing Bramalea City Centre for its next store, and the company revealed plans on Wednesday for the new store expected to open next year.
The new supercentre will be around 14,000 square-feet and with Walmart’s full retail collection of fashion, home goods, electronics, health and wellness, and seasonal items, a full grocery department including a deli and bakery, and a Walmart Pharmacy.
“Walmart Canada will become a new anchor tenant in Brampton’s largest shopping destination, enhancing everyday convenience for the surrounding community,” the company says in a release.
No exact opening date has been disclosed, but the company says the supercentre will open next year in space once occupied by Target, and later by Decathlon and Activate – which announced it was closing on March 31 “due to property redevelopment.”
Planning information posted on the City of Brampton website shows that Walmart intends to make some changes at the mall to accommodate its arrival, including gutting the current interior space and reconstructing the area to match the typical shopping spaces found at other Walmart stores.
The new Walmart Supercentre will be the sixth in Brampton, and is part of the company’s $6.5 billion investment in Canada announced last year, said Walmart Canada’s Senior Director of Real Estate Shawn Fujiki.
Bramalea City Centre General Manager Andrew Butler said adding Walmart to the mall’s roster of tenants “will bring value and convenience while enhancing the overall shopping experience at the centre, especially for the families that make up the majority of our customers.”
