Lots is changing between Canada, the U.S., and Mexico as a result of the new USMCA (NAFTA) trade agreement.

One of the changes that is being made as a result of the agreement is an increase of the online duty-free amount in Canada.

The $20 duty-free limited will now be $150 Canadian, a $130 difference.

This means that Canadians purchasing products from U.S. sites will not have to pay duties on purchases that are $150 or lower.

According to Chapter 7, Section A, of the Customs Administration and Trade Facilitation, “Under normal circumstances, no customs duties or taxes will be assessed at the time or point of importation or formal entry procedures required, on express shipments valued at or below a fixed amount set out under the Party’s law, provided that the shipment does not form part of a series of shipments carried out or planned for the purpose of evading duties or taxes, or avoiding any regulation applicable to the formal entry procedures required by the importing Party.”

The new duty-free amount in Mexico will be $100 U.S.

The new trade agreement was announced earlier this week.
