New state-of-the-art upgrades including a turf field, rubberized running track and more ways to practice cricket, basketball, track and field and many more improvements are ready for some action in Brampton.

The sports upgrades at Central Peel Secondary School were unveiled on Monday (Sept. 18) with a ribbon cutting, christening the new Central Peel Turf Field and synthetic running track.

A joint project by the city and the Peel District School Board (PDSB), the upgrades also include new high-jump, long-jump and throwing pits, a practice cricket pitch for school use, and three basketball courts all with modern LED sports field lighting for free community use.

Revitalizing the space into a multi-use facility will give youth and students in Brampton more ways to stay active and get involved in a variety of sports from basketball, football, soccer and track and field.

“This could not have been possible without many people working together to make this a success,” said David Green, Chair, Peel District School Board. “Not only students will benefit, but the entire Central Peel Community.”

The Central Peel Secondary School upgrades are the first of four recreation projects that the city and PDSB say they will be unveiling this year.

“From community sports stars to up-and-coming professional athletes and Olympic Gold Medalists, Brampton is home to incredible athletic talent,” the city said in a release. “The city is proud to invest in spaces and facilities that enhance access to play and training for all.”
