Those who love desserts may be interested to know that a new sweet shop has opened in Mississauga.

Halasweet, which specializes in Middle Eastern desserts, recently opened up at 3066 Hurontario St.

Menu items include their tres leches cake, which is a sponge cake soaked in three kinds of milk and their rice pudding, which is made with a mixture of rice and milk that is cooked until thick and creamy.

One of their popular menu items is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert called kunafa. At Halasweet, the kunafa is prepared by stuffing dairy products into two pieces of shredded phyllo before baking it in the oven.

And, for those who enjoy customizing their items, the kunafa can be ordered with different toppings such as milk chocolate and lotus to make the dessert experience unique to each individual.

Other menu items include Umm Ali, a traditional Egyptian bread pudding, cream caramel and mango rice pudding.

And, to wash it all down, guests can enjoy Arabic coffee, hot chocolate or a strawberry mojito.

Halasweet is open Sunday to Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
