A new shawarma restaurant, offering a variety of authentic flavours, has opened in the heart of Mississauga.

The lineup of customers stretched out the front door and into the parking lot as Shawarma Way opened last week at 33 Hillcrest Ave., near Hurontario and Dundas Sts. in Cooksville.

Awaiting the hungry bunch inside was a variety of menu items, including the traditional shawarma, a popular Levantine Arab dish consisting of meat cut into thin slices, stacked in a cone-like shape and roasted on a slowly-turning vertical rotisserie or spit before being served on pita bread.

Made with lamb, mutton or chicken originally, the dish today may also be turkey, beef or veal.

Owners of the new eat-in or takeout restaurant encourage customers to try the fried chicken and many flavours of chicken wings as well.

“We have worked to package our meals in a way that lets you bring the quality of our meals into your home, (but) we always love to see you in person,” the owners say.

Owners add the restaurant’s chef has 20 years’ experience cooking in fine restaurants.
