New pub with a sassy signage opening in historic Toronto location

A new pub with some ‘interesting’ signage is taking over a historical spot in Toronto.

According to a recent post on r/FoodToronto, a beloved location on Yonge and Roehampton in Toronto’s Midtown (which housed the Duke of Kent pub for decades) is getting a facelift and new owners.

While the exterior appears to have a fresh paint job, most passersby have noticed a — for lack of a better word — striking sign that reads ‘Post-Nup Pub.’

Users on the forum took the new signage in stride, making light fun, while others immediately dialled in to what it was evoking, with the top comment shutting down any buffoonery, stating the sign is an “extremely famous statue in Brussels in Belgium,” called the Manneken Pis.

Those commenting also noted that, due to its name, the new pub is likely from the team behind the cherished Prenup Pub by the U of T campus, which sadly closed its doors in February of this year.

An official post from the team on Instagram, posted a few months ago, confirmed this theory, with a caption reading “Stay tuned for updates!”

As a result, it can be assumed Atef Geris, the owner of the former Prenup and the famous Village Idiot across the street from the ROM, will be helming this new venture.

While no official date has been relayed on when this new pub will open, it’s already catching some eyes and generating some buzz, as many are happy that the historic space is not being cannibalized by a chain location, with one comment reading, “Glad it’s not a Firkin taking over the Duke!”

The Postnup Pub will likely open soon in the old Duke of Kent spot at 2315 Yonge St.
