A new Halton Regional Police station has officially opened on the edge of Milton and Halton Hills, creating a modern policing hub designed to serve some of the fastest-growing communities in the region.

The new 1 District station, located at 7930 Hornby Road, is a 66,000-square-foot facility that will replace the existing Milton police facility and bring 1 District command and police operations together under one roof.

The location, which currently sits in a largely rural area, was selected with future growth in mind as both Milton and Halton Hills continue to expand.

Halton Regional Police Chief Stephen Tanner said the new facility is an investment in the future of policing and will help the service better respond to the needs of a district that includes both urban and rural communities.

“The new one district facility stands as a significant investment in this service and in public safety technology,” Tanner said during the opening ceremony. “But beyond the technology, beyond the infrastructure, this building is mostly about people.”

Tanner said bringing operations together in one location will provide greater flexibility, coordination and resources for officers serving the area.

The new station includes all 1 District operations, a full district lock-up, and a backup 9-1-1 communications and data centre that can support emergency operations if the service’s main facilities experience an interruption.

The building also includes several sustainability features, including heat recovery technology and rooftop solar photovoltaic panels. Police say those features are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 31 per cent and generate between 20 and 25 per cent of the building’s annual electricity needs.

The new station is not yet open to the public. A formal public opening is expected in fall 2026, with a date to be announced.

Existing police sub-stations in Georgetown and Acton will remain open for residents as the service transitions to the new facility.

The move is part of Halton police’s plan to keep pace with population growth in North Halton. Milton has experienced significant growth in recent years, while Halton Hills continues to see development in both its urban and rural communities.

Jeff Knoll, chair of the Halton Police Services Board, said the facility is designed to support the officers and staff who serve the community.

“This facility is ultimately about supporting the members who serve our community, strengthening the relationships they build every day, and creating the space for community-led policing to continue to grow and serve our communities,” Knoll said.

Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner also praised Halton Regional Police during the opening, describing the service as a leader in public safety.

The new station is the latest major investment by Halton police as the service works to modernize its facilities and prepare for future demands.

Tanner said the building represents new opportunities for the service.

“We are opening the door to new possibilities, new ways of working, new ways of connecting, and new ways of keeping our community safe,” he said.
