A new pub is heading to a historic Toronto landmark.
The Broadview Hotel, for those unfamiliar, is an iconic architectural anchor of the east end, nestled in the heart of Leslieville.
Sitting in the same plot on Broadview Avenue for well over a century, the location has been host to several spots to grab a bite and a drink, prominently featuring an iconic rooftop bar with the most breathtaking views of the city east of the DVP.
With a 150-year history, the original restaurant was named after Archibald Dingman, the entrepreneur who built the property in 1891 as Dingman’s Hall, only to then become home to the iconic Jilly’s (a gentleman’s club of some renown).
Recent signage has shown that the ground-level restaurant in the Broadview Hotel is set to reopen as a new location simply called ‘Archie’s.’
INsauga.com reached out to representatives at The Broadview Hotel to inquire about the new location and what kind of vibe it plans to bring to Leslieville.
“Whether it’s parents coming in with their kids or friends meeting to grab a bite. We expect Archie’s atmosphere will be lively and upbeat, inspiring guests to stay a while, enjoy the game, shoot a round of pool, or hop into Archie’s photobooth,” a representative told INsauga.com via email.
While gunning for the family-friendly vibe that its neighbourhood of residence has become known for, Archie’s isn’t afraid to pay a few cheeky winks to its past, and as such, features cocktails called the ‘Pole Dancer’ and the ‘White Tiger.’
“The Broadview Hotel has always been a gathering place for Toronto’s east end, and Archie’s really leans into that idea. We want Archie’s to reflect the community and its demographics, which is approachable, down-to-earth, and energetic, while delivering on the superior quality and service the hotel is known for,” adds the hotel representative.
As a result of wanting to stay in lock-step with the needs of the neighbourhood, the menu at Archie’s will be built on true pub classics and will feature a wide array of comfort cuisine. This includes a large selection of gourmet smash burgers, pot pies, and diner-style desserts.
“Our goal is to create dishes that spark a memory or create a new one!”
Archie’s Tavern is set to open later this spring, just in time for Toronto’s iconic summertime rush.
