New Lanes Open on Another Major Mississauga Highway

Solo drivers, rejoice — the province has opened two new lanes on another major highway in Mississauga
It’s part of a strategy to improve traffic flow and get people where they’re going sooner, according to the Wynne government.
A pair of lanes – including a new High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane – are now open on Hwy. 427.
“Improving our highway infrastructure is vital to Ontario’s economy and keeping people moving,” said Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca.
“The addition of an HOV lane on this stretch of Hwy. 427 will help businesses and families in their daily lives and reduce time spent in traffic, giving people more time to do the things that are important to them.”
Del Duca was joined by Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey, Etobicoke-Lakeshore MPP Peter Milczyn, and Etobicoke North MPP Shafiq Qaadri for the announcement on Friday.

They officially opened the HOV lane, which runs southbound from Morningstar Dr. to Fasken Dr.
The addition “is a huge step in easing congestion along this important economic corridor,” said Qadri.
The province has also opened a new general purpose northbound lane from Woodbine to Finch, which brings this 4.5-km portion of the highway to a total of seven lanes.
“Just last week the Ontario government opened two general purpose lanes on the 410 highway,” said Jeffrey.
“This announcement continues to reinforce the government’s commitment to expanding transportation infrastructure across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.”
It’s part of the ongoing Highway 427 widening project, which is scheduled for completion in July 2018.
The project will create or sustain and estimated 580 direct or indirect jobs, the province says.
High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes with electronic tolling will also be implemented in 2021 in both directions, from south of Hwy. 409 to north of Rutherford Rd., a distance of approximately 15.5 kms.
No existing general purpose lanes will be removed to accommodate the HOT lanes, says the province.
Ontario is investing $82.8 million in the Hwy. 427 widening project.
The average daily traffic on Hwy. 427 between Morningstar Dr. and Fasken Dr. is approximately 140,000 vehicles per day and is expected to grow to more than 154,000 by 2021.
