New Italian bakery and deli opening in Hamilton soon

An Italian bakery and deli that is promising “something for everyone” is planning to open on Hamilton Mountain in just more than two weeks.

It is called — what else? — Mamma’s Italian, and a tentative opening date is slated for April 1 (two weeks from Friday) at 1575 Upper Ottawa St. at Rymal Road E. in the area of the Templemead and Rymal neighbourhoods. Details about Mamma’s says it will offer hot and ready-to-go meals at breakfast, lunch and dinnertime, while also focusing on the traditional touches from the southern European nation whose cuisine and culture has had an effect on Hamilton over the last several decades.

That includes offering an espresso bar; a gelato bar; fresh bread; baked goods, cakes, and pastries; and deli meats and cheeses. An Instagram post also indicated that Mamma’s is planning to serve foods that, while traditionally Italian, are variously dairy-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, keto, and vegan.

A video on the bakery/deli’s Instagram account also notes that Mamma’s is planning on offering student specials. The business is located close to a pair of high schools, Bishop Ryan CSS and Nora Frances Henderson SS.

Mamma’s is planning to be open from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Further updates are available through its Instagram page (@mammas_italian_bakery).
