After much anticipation, a new Asian-fusion doughnut shop celebrated its grand opening this week in downtown Hamilton.

Momoco Donuts, located at 2 Catherine St. N hosted its grand opening on Monday (May 11) much to the delight of foodies and doughnut lovers.

Hamilton’s newest donut shop is brought to the community by the same innovators who created MySweeTooth, the city’s first Asian-fusion bakery that opened in 2020 and has since become one of the most popular places to indulge a sweet tooth.

In honour of the occasion of Momoco’s opening, for this past week, 20 per cent of the shop’s proceeds to local charities supporting Hamilton’s homeless.

“What inspires us to do so is that we observe and experience the homeless problem in DT Hamilton first hand, and we want to do something about it,” Momoco’s owner said in a social media post announcing the charitable incentive.

“Change won’t happen overnight but it will happen if we all offer a little help.”

The shop specializes in freshly made, from-scratch milk bun doughnuts. What are those, one might ask?

“Milk bun donuts should be fluffy with a good bite, it is similar to a brioche dough but made with less sugar and butter, also with water roux added to make the dough stay soft longer without any additives,” the social media post explained.

Popular flavours include mango, raspberry, ube, coconut, matcha, black sesame, curry bun and much more. The Momoco team says that more varieties of doughnuts and more flavours are on the way.

In the meantime, the shop is open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ( or sold out) and they offer delivery.
