A popular Canadian retailer is opening another store in Hamilton this weekend just as the province enters into Stage 3 of its reopening.

Giant Tiger Inc. announced this week that its newest location in Ancaster will officially open to the public this Saturday (July 17).

The new store, located at 120 Portia Drive, Unit 3, is 18,044 square feet and is the fifth Giant Tiger location in Hamilton, but the first in Ancaster.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the community and look forward to opening our doors to serve our valued customers here in Ancaster, Ont.,” said store manager, Raman Dhatt, in a press release.

“We are ready to help families purchase their essentials at everyday low prices while maintaining a healthy shopping environment for everyone.”

While the province is slowly opening up and indoor capacity limits are starting to rise, all Giant Tiger stores will still have some COVID-19 safety protocols in place to protect staff and customers:

  • Face coverings and masks are required for all employees working in Giant Tiger stores and facilities
  • Employee health checks performed before every shift worked
  • Limiting the number of customers entering Giant Tiger stores
  • One-way aisles with physical distancing reminders

As a gesture of the Canadian and privately-owned company’s community spirit, a donation will be made to Ancaster Community Services, an organization that provides programs, volunteer opportunities, information, and resources to enhance the quality of life for residents of Ancaster.

Giant Tiger has 260 locations across Canada and employs approximately 10,000 people across the country.
