A major European airline has signed on to fly out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga and for travellers that means more opportunities to visit Switzerland.
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) announced on Tuesday that as of early in 2024 it will expand its operations to include several new destinations, among them Pearson Airport (May 2024) and Washington, D.C. (March 2024).
In re-posting the announcement to social media, Pearson officials noted that the expanded nonstop flight service will mean five new flights per week between Pearson and Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland, starting late next spring.
The “milestone” signifies Pearson’s “commitment to connecting people and places worldwide,” airport officials said in their post to X (formerly Twitter).
“In the wake of the pandemic, it has now become clearer than ever that travel is a deeply-rooted human need, especially among the younger generations,” SWISS chief commercial officer Tamur Goudarzi Pour said in a press release.
Of the new flights to Pearson, which begin on May 10, SWISS officials said the service will be provided daily except Mondays and Wednesdays, using Airbus A330 aircraft.
“Toronto is a thriving multicultural metropolis of imposing skyscrapers on the banks of Lake Ontario. It’s also regarded as one of Canada’s most important arts and culture hubs,” SWISS officials added in the release.
