New flights to Italy take off from Pearson Airport in Mississauga

Those looking to get away to one of the world’s most romantic cities now have additional flights to choose from out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Starting today (June 20), Air Transat has resumed weekly flights to Venice, the city of canals.

As air travel continues to return to normal in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada’s third-largest airline is gradually reintroducing service to a number of big-name destinations around the world, including the romantic Italian city.

Early last month, Air Transat resumed non-stop service from Pearson to Paris, in addition to similar service to Barcelona and Zagreb.

In April, the airline announced it was reinstating service to Dublin five times a week.

Other airlines are busy upping service levels as well.

Also in early May, German carrier Condor returned to Pearson Airport with non-stop service between Mississauga and Frankfurt.

Air Canada, meanwhile, has also significantly increased its service to various destinations from Pearson.

Canada’s flagship carrier has increased flights this spring and will continue to do so in the summer to both North American destinations and travel spots elsewhere around the world.

Air Canada’s summer 2022 international schedule includes the re-launching of 34 routes across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, 16 of those routes out of Pearson Airport and 14 out of Montreal.

In March, non-stop flights resumed from Pearson to Tel Aviv, Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Vienna, Athens and Rome.

In April, the schedule expanded to include Venice and Tokyo, while Copenhagen, Budapest, Barcelona, Madrid, Edinburgh and Manchester are being added this month.

This month, service from Pearson to Reykjavik (Iceland) resumes.

Service to many of the locations had been suspended since March 2020, the beginning of the pandemic.

It’s a sign, Air Canada officials said in an earlier news release, that “recovery is well underway.”

Among the North American routes resuming service this spring and summer are flights out of Pearson to Baltimore, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Portland, St. Louis, Hartford, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Kansas City, Fort McMurray, Nanaimo and Gander.
