Scandinavian Airlines jet to Pearson

Starting in June, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will schedule multiple direct flights each week between Sweden and Denmark and Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

SAS will run three weekly flights from Copenhagen and four weekly flights from Stockholm on board its brand-new Airbus A321LR aircraft as it expands its North American network.

In a statement yesterday, SAS officials said that as the fourth-largest city in North America, Toronto is “an international centre for business and finance, and a truly cosmopolitan city with a vast array of experiences” for travellers.

“We are happy to announce direct flights from Scandinavia to Toronto, taking the next step in strengthening our North America network. SAS’ new routes will make travel between Scandinavia and Canada easy and convenient for our travellers,” said Karl Sandlund, an SAS executive vice-president. “Flights depart from Scandinavia at midday and from Toronto in the afternoon enabling good connections in either end to other destinations.”

SAS officials say the direct routes to Mississauga will begin in June provided the carrier obtains the necessary approval from authorities.

Ticket sales are expected to start soon.

The Pearson Airport routes will be operated by Airbus A321LR aircraft, which carry 157 passengers in a three-class configuration.

“SAS aims to be a global leader in sustainable aviation. As we continue to phase in new, fuel-efficient aircraft, we now have one of Europe’s most modern fleets,” said Sandlund. “The new, state-of-the-art aircraft will give our customers a more pleasant, comfortable and sustainable way of travelling.”

This coming summer, SAS will fly to a total of seven destinations in the U.S. and Canada. In addition to Pearson, the carrier is also running routes to Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
