A modular fire training tower for the Oshawa Fire Department has arrived, with set-up of the facility happening at the Oshawa Executive Airport’s south field.

The $1.5 million tower, which is made from shipping containers, was approved by Oshawa Council last May and replaces the old fire training tower on Wentworth Street.

The old facility outlived its scheduled lifespan and has not been used in several years.

The training facility ties into the city’s Fire Master Plan, providing a location for crews to perform live fire training exercises, high-rise firefighting, search and rescue and other drills, as well as public education.

The airport location is expected to be temporary while the City and Oshawa Fire search for a permanent home for the facility.
