New fire station will serve growing Caledon neighbourhood

Caledon has opened a new fire station in the rapidly growing Mayfield West area, a move officials say will improve emergency response times and strengthen public safety in the southern part of the town.

Town officials say the new facility at 12357 Chinguacousy Road will help close existing service gaps and improve emergency coverage as population growth and industrial development continue in the area.

The approximately 15,000-square-foot station includes three apparatus bays, firefighter accommodations, office space and dedicated training areas aimed at supporting day-to-day operations and long-term emergency preparedness.

Caledon Fire & Emergency Services Chief Dave Pelayo said the station represents a significant investment in frontline emergency services.

“Fire Station 310 enhances our ability to provide timely, effective emergency response for our growing community,” Pelayo said in a statement. “This purpose-built facility allows our firefighters to train, rest, and respond with the tools and support they need to protect lives and property every day.”

The station was also designed with sustainability and firefighter health in mind.

Town officials say the facility includes a net-metered 100-kilowatt rooftop solar system, fully electric high-efficiency mechanical systems and a smart building automation system intended to reduce energy consumption and long-term operating costs.

The building’s layout separates operational areas from living and administrative spaces in an effort to reduce firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens and other harmful substances. Specialized ventilation systems have also been incorporated to improve air quality and overall workplace safety.

The opening of Station 310 is part of Caledon’s broader long-term growth and infrastructure strategy, which includes investments in staffing, emergency services and public safety infrastructure to keep pace with continued development across the municipality.
