New express bus will take riders from one end of Mississauga to the other

A new express bus will soon take transit riders in Mississauga from the city’s western border all the way to Toronto.

The introduction of MiWay’s Route 135 Eglinton Express is among a number of service upgrades to take effect starting Oct. 27, Mississauga public transit officials said in an update on Tuesday.

Route 135 Eglinton Express will operate as a new weekday peak express route along the Eglinton corridor and Mississauga Transitway, officials at MiWay, the city’s public transit provider, added.

The bus will travel from Winston Churchill Station in the west to Renforth Station at the Toronto border in the east, via Eglinton Avenue and the Mississauga Transitway.

“This new route will provide new connections to local MiWay bus service along the Eglinton corridor  and the transitway, and to regional GO bus service at Winston Churchill and Renforth stations,” MiWay said in its update.

The express service will run every 12 minutes on weekdays from 6-9 a.m. in the morning and 3-6 p.m. in the afternoon. Service frequencies on Route 35 Eglinton will be adjusted from 9 to 10 minutes to 12 minutes to better align with this new service, transit officials said.

In addition to the new Eglinton corridor express bus, Route 107 Malton Express will offer more frequent weekday and Saturday service, as well as new Sunday service, beginning the end of the month.

Upgrades on that route come in response to growing ridership demand, MiWay said.

Also due to increased customer demand, and to address overcrowding, the following routes will provide more frequent service on weekdays starting Oct. 27:

• 2 Hurontario: from 11 minutes to 10 minutes from 2-6:30 p.m.
• 51 Tomken: from 15 minutes to 13 minutes from 1:30-6 p.m.
• 71 Sheridan: an additional trip will be added in the morning and  afternoon rush periods.
