The Milton Indoor Turf Centre will be getting a new dome.

Milton council has approved the expenditure of up to $2 million to find a private operator to install and maintain an air-supported dome for the facility which is located at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School.

The facility is used mostly as a soccer facility through a partnership between the Town, the Halton Catholic District School Board and the school.

The inflated dome is used during cold weather months.

This past December the dome was severely damaged by high winds and winter weather which promoted the call for a replacement. It has since remained closed.

Operating as the Milton Indoor Turf Centre since it opened in 2013, the facility regularly operates at full capacity and the demand by the public for it to re-open has been great, according to Town officials. It generally operates with a slight profit each year.

Milton councillors approved the expenditure at a recent meeting with the understanding that once a builder is found and the details are worked out, the new dome will be expected to be in place in time for the fall of 2024.
