Flights to Mexico from Mississauga.

Travellers looking to get away to one of the largest cities in Mexico can now book direct flights to Guadalajara from Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Edmonton-based low-cost carrier Flair Airlines began direct service from Pearson to Guadalajara last Friday. It will operate three flights per week this fall/winter and next spring between Toronto and the city in western Mexico known for, among other cultural items of interest, tequila and mariachi music.

With a population of 1,385,629 people (2020), Guadalajara is the eighth-most populous city in the country and its metropolitan area (5.3 million people) is Mexico’s third-largest.

“Flair’s flights to Guadalajara have been a huge success out of Vancouver and we’re really excited to see the same enthusiasm and demand from Toronto,” Flair interim CEO and president Maciej Wilk said in a news release. “Guadalajara is one of the most vibrant and important cities in Mexico and as Flair deepens our roots in Mexico, we are expanding our routes, too.”

In a post to social media, Pearson Airport officials noted that Flair’s expanded service marks the first direct flights from Pearson to Guadalajara.

“Flair’s new service to Guadalajara is a welcome addition to the roster of routes available from Pearson to Mexico,” Khalil Lamrabet, spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, which runs Pearson, said in the news release. “Guadalajara has long been an unserved market with considerable demand; last year alone, nearly 26,000 passengers flew indirectly from Pearson.”

With an expanding fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, Flair now serves more than 35 cities in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

The carrier announced in October 2021 that it was bumping up its business at Pearson Airport, promising the future addition of nonstop flights to numerous destinations across North America.
