New Mississauga developments must build bicycle parking stations as well

Builders of new developments in Mississauga will soon have to include bicycle parking in their plans under proposed City of Mississauga rules that support accommodations for various modes of transportation.

The City is introducing the new bicycle parking requirements through its Bicycle Parking Regulations Study, which also calls on redevelopment projects to build new bike parking stations on site.

The new building rules apply to both residential and commercial developments.

City officials will discuss the plan in detail at next Monday’s (May 9) planning and development committee meeting, which is open to the public.

The session begins at 1:30 p.m. and can also be viewed via livestream.

Those in attendance will be able to ask questions or offer their comments on the proposals.

Members of the planning and development committee are expected to make a decision on the proposals before the package goes to council for approval.

Any plan requiring new developments to have bicycle parking structures would include apartments, townhouses (without exclusive garages) and other multi-unit buildings, in addition to retail developments, offices, schools and other institutions.
