An Oakville retirement home is being affected by a new COVID-19 outbreak.

Halton Region declared a public outbreak on Jan. 11 at the Chartwell Waterford Retirement Residence, located on 2160 Baronwood Dr.

No official numbers on how many people were infected have been released by the Health unit.

“In each instance, we have activated required enhanced infection control measures for the safety of our residents and staff and we remain in contact with the appropriate public health authorities,” read a Chartwell statement on its website. “We continue to monitor the health of all residents and staff in all of our residences and remain vigilant in our efforts to manage this pandemic.

“We are following isolation and infection control protocols and other recommendations of the Chief Medical Officer and Public Health in each of these homes, and we thank our staff, residents and family members for their compliance and support.”
