New COVID-19 cases up, outbreaks down in Durham Region

Another week, another series of mixed messages on the COVID-19 front as the very persistent virus refuses to leave Durham Region.
New cases are up to 184 (from 169) and hospital cases are also up slightly to 37 (from 35) in the week ending March 4.
The weekly incidence rate (per 100,000 population) is also up a tick to 25.1 (from 23.0) but other underlying factors are down. The per cent positivity rate dropped to 7.2 per cent (from 8.3 per cent), the number of outbreaks at institutions such as hospitals, retirement centres and long term care homes dropped from 13 to 9 and the number of deaths from the virus fell from two the previous reporting period to one last week.
Since the pandemic was declared three years ago (almost exactly) 545 people in Durham Region have died from the virus.
