New COVID-19 cases in Durham Region decline again but hospital numbers up

A mixed bag of messages from the weekly COVID-19 report for Durham Region with some of the numbers on the rise while a couple of important stats either declined, or in the case of deaths from the virus, flatlined at zero.

New cases in Durham continue to fall, with 164 reported during the week of March 12-18, down from 171 the previous period and 184 for the week of Feb. 26-March 4.

The weekly incidence rate (per 100,000 people) is also down – 22.4 from 23.3 – but other numbers are up slightly. Outbreaks at local institutions such as hospitals, long-term care homes and retirement residences, are up to nine (from eight) and the per cent positivity rate rose to 9.2 per cent from 8.1 per cent.

Hospital cases are also up to 26 (with two in intensive care) from 18.
