Something new is coming to The Collegeway!

The city is adding protected bike lanes on The Collegeway between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Mississauga Road. This addition is a part of the 2018 Cycling Master Plan.

After many complaints from residents, the city is finally planning its first cycle tracks/separated bicycle lanes on The Collegeway.

The city will resurface the roadway to provide space for more protected bike lanes.

Construction is set to begin in 2020. Though, it is subject to change depending on the chosen design.

The project team consists of Mississauga’s Manager of Active Transportation Matthew Sweet and WSP Project Manager Katherine Jim.

According to a recent open house, the team is currently in phase three of the project, which is the Assessment of Alternatives. At the open house, the team presented four alternative designs of the cycling infrastructure. Around 65 Mississauga residents attended the event and gave the team their opinions. The team is also accepting written comments until June 28th.

“Community input will be one factor that helps guide the selection of a preferred alternative. The preferred alternative will be brought back to the community along with additional details at a second open house to be held in September,” said the team in an email to InSauga.

The team has already completed a background review and analysis of the bike lanes. The next phase will be the presentation of the detailed design.
