A new cellphone service has been launched in Canada.

Cogeco announced this week that it has launched its mobile service with an initial rollout in select markets, before an eventual expansion to all markets where the company operates.

“For almost 70 years, Cogeco has been deeply rooted in regional markets,” said Cogeco president and CEO Frédéric Perron.

“The launch of Cogeco Mobile is not just a new chapter, it’s a bold declaration of our unwavering commitment to be a competitive force in Canada.”

There is a time-limited offer of mobile plans starting at $0 for the first year, “with rollover data, no commitments, no activation fees, and no surprise overages,” said Cogeco chief growth officer Nancy Audette.

Cogeco Mobile is currently available in these areas for new and existing Cogeco Internet subscribers who bring their own phone:

  • Ontario: BrockvilleChathamCobourgCornwall and Welland
  • Québec: Alma, MagogRimouskiSaint-GeorgesSaint-HyacintheSaint-Sauveur, Sept-Îles and Trois-Rivières

The company said that it is planning to roll out the service to all Cogeco markets in the Fall.

In terms of network coverage, Audette said Cogeco has partnered with other companies.

“We know that network coverage is important for mobile users, which is why we’ve partnered with national and international mobile networks to launch a mobile service, in addition to building infrastructure where it makes sense over time,” Audette said.
