If you take the bus in Mississauga, you may notice some changes today.

Sept. 1 marks the beginning of many route and schedule changes that could impact students when they head back to classes. Both university and high school students should check to see if the changes will affect their travel times.

The changes will see some services added on MiWay buses, while others have been removed.

Here are some of the changes:

Route 110 University Express will have new weekend service, and its short variant that travels from City Centre Transit Terminal to the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) will be renamed the 110A University Express. Routes 2, 26, 35 and 61 will have improved Saturday service, and a new Route 312 will be introduced to service Glenforest Secondary School.

New weekend service on Route 110 University Express:

In response to requests from University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) students, weekend service will be introduced on Route 110 University Express.

The service will run on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. to help students get to and from the campus on weekends.

New name for 110 University Express short variant: Route 110A University Express:

During weekday service, the short variant of the 110 University Express that travels between City Centre Transit Terminal (CCTT) and UTM, will be renamed to 110A University Express. This new name will help customers easily distinguish between this short variant and the long variant, which travels from CCTT to Clarkson GO Station.

High school service:

Regular 300-series school routes will resume service with the following changes.

  • 306 Streetsville Secondary School: Due to low ridership, the 7:39 a.m. northbound trip has been cancelled. The 2:33 p.m. southbound trip will continue to operate.
  • 315 Rick Hansen Secondary School: Due to high ridership, an additional afternoon southbound trip has been added, departing Rick Hansen Secondary School at 3:17 p.m.
  • 321 Stephen Lewis Secondary School: To address overcrowding, an additional afternoon southbound trip has been added, departing St. Joan of Arc Secondary School at 2:39 p.m.

Additional school trips will also be added to regular routes to provide additional capacity during school start and dismissal times.

New route to service Glenforest Secondary School:

To address overcrowding concerns on Route 26 Burnhamthorpe, a new dedicated route will service Glenforest Secondary School.

Route 312 Glenforest SS will operate on weekdays between CCTT and the stops at Burnhamthorpe Road at Fieldgate Drive. In the morning, the bus will depart CCTT Platform E and drop off students at stop #1391. In the afternoon, buses will pick up students at stop #1554.
