New Brampton bakery has a cake eating contest for grand opening

Craving a sugar rush? A new Brampton bakery wants you to have your cake and a $200 grand prize, too at its grand opening celebration and cake eating contest.

SK Confectionery is a new bakery in Brampton crafting customized cake for weddings, celebrations or just good old fashioned dessert.

To celebrate the shop’s grand opening, owner Sahajbir Kaur is holding a a cake eating contest on August 5 where contestants can win up to $200 in cash and $100 in gift cards.

“I have about 20 people registered,” Kaur said of the contest. “I might have to cap it around 50, just for space constraints.”

Contestants will each have to race to finish a 6 inch by 4 inch cake. Whoever finishes their cake the fastest will win the grand prize of $200 and $100 store credit. Second place will take home $100 and a $50 gift card, while the third place winner will receive $50 cash and $25 in store credits.

To register for the contest applicants can text “let me eat cake” and their full name to 416-262-2661. There is a $15 cash entry fee payable at the event.

On top of the contest, Kaur said there will be free cake samples, doughnuts, cookies and cake pops for guests to sample, and family-friendly activities at the grand opening celebration.

The SK Confectionery grand opening runs from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 5, with the cake eating contest starting at 6:00 p.m.
