The City of Burlington is planning to resurface and install new bicycle features on Plains Road from Spring Gardens Road to Waterdown Road in 2022 as part of their “Plains Road Protected Bikeway and Resurfacing” project.

The project is set to include new bikeways, the resurfacing of the road, the replacement of curbs and sidewalks, the regrading of driveways and landscaping and a new bus pad.

Additionally, it will include the relocation and upgrade of street lights and hydro poles with preparation work set to begin this summer.

While this project aims to benefit cyclers, pedestrians may be wondering what these proposed changes could mean for them. Well, according to the City, the addition of the bikeway may result in various “indirect benefits” such as improved comfort and safety for sidewalk users and reduced sidewalk cycling.

Residents are currently being encouraged to provide their feedback on the project by completing an online survey from now until July 9.

The survey will provide residents with the opportunity to share their opinions on the proposed project and allow them to provide input on any potential changes.

The estimated cost for the design and construction of this project is approximately $3.7 million.
