A massive new $80-million manufacturing plant in Brampton is expected to bring hundreds of jobs to the city when Axium Packaging is moving from Mississauga.

Construction is already underway at Dixie Road and Highway 407 for Axium Packaging’s new Brampton manufacturing plant.

The company is relocating its Canadian manufacturing facility from Mississauga to Brampton, doubling the size of the workforce that will be employed at the new $80 million facility.

Axium provides design engineering and tool-building solutions for customers’ packaging needs, including, plastic containers, tubes, caps and high-end decorating services. The company’s current Canadian plant is located in Mississauga at 1200 Meyerside Dr.

Axium says the new plant is part of the company’s expansion in the North American market and will employ some 250 team members when it opens in July of next year.

The manufacturing industry accounts for nearly a quarter of Brampton’s workforce and is the largest industry by employment in the city, and Coun. Gurpartap Singh Toor, who sits as Chair of the city’s economic development committee, says the new plant is a sign Brampton is in a “strong position” to attract new investments in the sector.

“With Axium further bolstering the network of existing leading companies in the city, Brampton is the right place to invest in jobs of the future,” Toor said in a statement.

Axium has 20 manufacturing plants in the United States, Canada and Mexico with over 3,600 employees, the city said in a release.
