A ten-storey rental apartment building got a green light for a Mississauga neighbourhood.
The proposal is for 1485 Williamsport Dr. and 3480 Havenwood Dr. in the Applewood area near Bloor and Dixie roads, according to a report to the Planning and Development Committee.
There are already two apartment buildings on the site and originally the owner, Starlight Group Property Holdings Inc., proposed adding two eight-storey buildings with 202 units in 2018.
After feedback from the city and community, the proposal was revised to one 10-storey building with 154 units. The new apartment building would be built northwest of the existing apartment at 1485 Williamsport Dr.
The proposal is gentle infill that will improve the site overall, said Grant Mason an urban planner with Urban Strategies Inc. at the Sept. 16 Planning and Development Committee meeting.
“This provides new, much-needed housing in a purpose-built rental form,” said Mason.
There will be 50 additional parking spaces through the existing above-grade area and expanding the underground parking garage. This will provide 0.87 parking spaces per unit and 0.1 visitor parking spaces per unit, according to the report.
Pedestrian pathways and crossings are planned on the site.
The green space area was increased from the previous proposal. This area will be a central, open green space with seating areas, which will be for all residents.
The project was approved at the Sept. 16 committee and will need final approval at council.
