Nearly 50,000 COVID-19 vaccinations have been given at Brampton’s hockey hub mass vaccination location at the CAA Centre in the Region of Peel.

Vaccinations remain a high priority for Peel Public Health Department as the fight against the Delta variant that is spreading in the region continues.

Sylvia Jones, Ontario’s solicitor general, has been a leader in the province’s historic vaccination effort. During a visit to the Peel’s hockey hub, Jones noted the collaboration seen among private organizations, public health and all levels of government has been instrumental to getting Ontarians vaccinated safely and efficiently.

“We are seeing improvements in province wide public health trends, but the race against the COVID-19 variants is imperative to the province’s reopening plans,” said Jones.

“The teamwork shown among Peel Public Health, the Grey Bruce Health Unit, and the private organizations who came together to establish this hub and expand our vaccination capacity is truly commendable.”

The hub was established in collaboration with the Region of Peel and a coalition of organizations brought together by Bruce Power. Grey-Bruce’s top doctor, Dr. Ian Arra developed the Hockey Hub model and recently brought a team of clinical staff from the Grey Bruce Health unit to the site to support on site vaccinations and share successful processes to administer vaccines to large numbers of clients using the model.

The site opened to the public in late May, and will have delivered nearly 50,000 doses in 17 clinic days between May 26 and June 30. The materials from the clinic will be redeployed to other vaccine clinics in the region following the closure of the site.
