Peel Regional Police issued arrest warrants for 38 people during an “auto blitz” which targeted offenders known to steal cars.

According to Deputy Chief Mark Andrews, the service ran the blitz from Nov. 6 to Dec. 3 in Mississauga. The blitz ran across Derry Rd. and Lake Ontario to Mavis Rd. East and Etobicoke Creek, the area patrolled by 12 Division.

The program focused on offenders who either steal cars or are known to be using a stolen car. With this suspect information, the Auto Theft Squad cleared 41 stolen car reports. This resulted in arrest warrants for 38 people on 58 collective criminal charges.

Six stolen cars have been recovered over the blitz and police have filed another 10 unrelated charges as a result of their investigations.

“With the large number of auto thefts in the GTA,” Andrews said, “these efforts will no doubt result in several repeat offenders being held accountable for their serious crimes.”

Anyone with information about car thefts can call police at 605-453-2121 ext. 1233.
