Close to 300 appointments have been added for second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Mississauga and Brampton.

Appointments can be booked for the additional slots through the provincial booking website, covid19.ontariohealth.ca, with appointments available as early as Tuesday (July 20). There are 134 additional spots available at the Region of Peel Mississauga office (7120 Hurontario St.), while 163 more spots have been added at the Save Max Sports Centre in Brampton (1495 Sandalwood Pky E.)

There is a minimum four-week wait from the time a person received their first dose before they can get their second. The exception is for residents who received Oxford-AstraZeneca for their first dose, who are required to wait eight weeks.

It takes about two weeks to develop maximum immunity to COVID-19 after receiving a second dose.

Overall, Peel Region has vaccinated 69.0 per cent of its total population, with 51.5 per cent having completed their vaccine series. That includes 80.1 per cent first-dose coverage among the adult population who are at least 18 years old, and 79.3 first-dose coverage among the eligible 12-and-older population.

Among adults, 60.9 per cent have completed their vaccine series, while the uptake is 59.2 among the eligible population.
