Nearly 200 stolen LEGO sets lead to charge for Ontario man

Police have charged one man with the theft of nearly 200 LEGO sets that were stolen from a business in an Ontario town.

The OPP says police were alerted to the theft on Tuesday by a business on Carnegie Street in the town of Ingersoll, approximately 32 kilometres east of London.

Investigators say the theft happened overnight and that approximately 200 boxes of Lego were stolen.

The boxes were being stored for donations, police say.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, the OPP says officers searched a home on Hollingshead Road in Ingersoll where 191 boxes of Lego were found. Investigators shared a photo of the recovered LEGO boxes, which all appear to be of the same LEGO City Halloween Hayride Set.

According to website BrickRanker.com, the set was released in August 2020 and retired in December 2021. The set is sold out on the LEGO online store with a retail price of $16.99, but boxes are being resold for as much as $109 on Amazon and $118 on eBay.

Police say a 44-year-old resident of Ingersoll was arrested and charged following the raid.

The OPP says Sean Sage, 44, of Ingersoll, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on Aug. 18.
