Thousands of students across the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board are preparing for the next chapter of their lives, but a select group are leaving high school with academic records that are among the best in their graduating classes.
The Catholic board has announced its top Ontario Scholars for the 2025-26 school year, recognizing students from Catholic secondary schools in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon who achieved exceptional results while preparing for post-secondary studies.
Names of top scholars within the Peel District School Board have not yet been released.
Leading the board’s graduating class is Nolan Barreto from Loyola Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, who earned an outstanding 99.7 per cent average. Barreto will attend the University of Toronto this fall in the Engineering Science program.
In Brampton, Davneet Kaur Brar and Michael Francisco from St. Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary School shared the distinction of being the school’s top Ontario Scholars, each earning a 99.3 per cent average.
Brar will enter the Schulich Bachelor of Business Administration program at York University, while Francisco will study Chemistry at the University of Toronto.
Victoria Yefymenko of St. Michael Catholic Secondary School earned the highest average among students in the Bolton, Caledon and Orangeville areas, achieving a 99 per cent average. She will continue her studies at the University of Waterloo in Computer Science and Mathematics.
While these four students recorded the highest averages in their communities, the board said their accomplishments represent the dedication and achievement of thousands of graduates across the region.
“Congratulations to Nolan, Davneet, Michael, Victoria, and all of our Ontario Scholars on their impressive accomplishments,” said Dr. Marianne Mazzorato, Chief Executive Officer of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.
“Reaching this high level of academic success requires immense hard work, focus, and determination. Their achievements also reflect the vital role of teachers, parents and guardians who supported and motivated them along the way.”
To earn the Ontario Scholar designation, students must achieve an average of at least 80 per cent across their top six Grade 12 courses.
This year, 4,239 Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board graduates achieved Ontario Scholar status.
The board celebrated a total of 6,789 graduates this year who met the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations and are now preparing to begin their post-secondary journeys.
“This year, we celebrate 6,789 DPCDSB graduates who have met the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations and are prepared to begin their post-secondary journey,” said Mazzorato. “We are very proud of every one of them and wish them success and God’s abundant blessings as they step into the next phase of their lives.”
