A natural gas leak has led to the precautionary evacuation of 11 homes in an east Mississauga townhouse complex this afternoon (July 19).
Mississauga Fire Chief Deryn Rizzi tweeted that firefighters remain on the scene at 753 Village Green Blvd., which runs east off Cawthra Rd. a couple of blocks north of Lakeshore Rd.
“The main feed has been damaged by an auger,” the tweet reads, referring to a tool used to bore holes in the ground. “We’ve been notified that it will be at least three hours for a repair.”
City of Mississauga MiWay buses are available and on scene to be used as temporary shelter for those who’ve been forced from their homes.
In follow-up information provided to area residents, Mississauga fire officials said the leak is concentrated in the Village Green Blvd. area and that the homes were evacuated as “a safety precaution.”
