National Steel Car employee killed in industrial accident: Hamilton Police

Hamilton Police are reporting that an employee of National Steel Car was killed in an industrial accident on Wednesday (Sept. 2).

The unidentified 51-year-old employee was pronounced dead at the scene and the Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate the incident.
Police say shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, they responded to a workplace accident at National Steel Car, 602 Kenilworth Ave. N.
Initial information provided to police stated a man was struck by a large metal item that he was working on.
Hamilton Police have confirmed the cause of the accident was not criminal in nature. As such the police investigation has been concluded.
The Ministry of Labour was contacted and subsequently attended.
The man’s next of kin notification was carried out by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
Meanwhile, the company announced late Wednesday that the plant would be in shutdown mode starting Thursday (Sept. 3) and will reopen on Tuesday (Sept. 8).
