Constant rain and near-freezing conditions turned Niagara Region’s roads into a demolition derby yesterday (December 15).

By 3 pm, Niagara Police had reported 47 collisions, urging them to tell drivers to stay off the road if at all possible.

So far, they haven’t reported how many collisions there were by the end of the day so rush hour home wasn’t included in those numbers.

A breakdown of the crashes is as follows:

  • 18 – Welland and Pelham
  • 9 – Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln
  • 8 – St. Catharines
  • 7 – Niagara Falls
  • 5 – Port Colborne
