Naked man climbs building to spy on woman’s bathroom in Ontario

Police have charged an Ontario man with voyeurism after he was allegedly caught scaling a building with his pants down to spy into a woman’s bathroom.

The call came in to Niagara Regional Police around 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday about a man who had climbed some 20 feet up the outside wall of a residence on West Main Street in Welland.

A woman witnessed the man peering into her bathroom window and attempting to enter the residence by removing the screen, police say.

When police arrived, they found a man naked from the waist down who had scaled between two buildings approximately four feet apart while “using his legs to hold his body weight.”

That’s when police say the naked man climbed onto the building’s roof before jumping to the ground in an attempt to evade officers.

The man took off on foot, but was caught after trying to resist officers, police say. He was arrested and transported to hospital given the height of his jump.

Police added the man again tried to escape “by breaking free from an officer’s hold and sprinting toward an exit,” but was again caught.

Barry Austin Morningstar, 31, of no fixed address, has been charged with voyeurism, break enter commit dwelling house, breach of probation, two counts of mischief under $5,000, loiter/prowl at night on another person’s property, nude in public place and other offences.

Police say the incident may be connected to an earlier break-and-enter in Welland on Aug. 22.

In that break-in, police say an unknown man entered a residence in the area of Endicott Terrace and Barrington Drive through a window and had “an interaction” with a young child.
