Mysterious death at Niagara Detention Center prompts homicide investigation

A comprehensive investigation is underway following the death of a 52-year-old male inmate at the Niagara Detention Centre last weekend (June 10).
Officers were dispatched to the facility at approximately 6:30 a.m. in response to a medical emergency.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered that the man was unresponsive and without any vital signs.
After several attempts to revive the inmate with First Aid and CPR, he was pronounced dead.
The Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit has taken over the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death.
While the investigation remains active, there is currently no information to suggest any imminent risk to the public, according to police.
