Music showcase features drumming circle and Juno-nominated Brampton teacher in Mississauga

Music fans may want to catch a special showcase happening this week in Mississauga.
The Peel District School Board presents its annual Peel Music Showcase on Thursday, May 2.
Although the show features students, anyone, not just family, is welcome to attend.
The showcase will spotlight students’ musical talents with 11 performances, according to a press release from the Peel District School Board.
The event will include students from Grades 3 to 12, organized by Bobbie Dorka, instructional coordinator for the arts.
“Highlighting the diversity of the Peel community, the performances will include First Nations traditional drumming, an R&B band, sounds from tablas, chimte, steel pans and more,” the release states.
Opening the show will be a First Nations traditional drumming circle, with Indigenous-identifying students.
Juno-nominated teacher Zeda Ali, from Sunny View Middle School will lead the steel pan ensemble for its debut performance. Ali was nominated for the MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award at the 2024 Juno Awards.
As a finale, Nibi’s Water Song will be performed, a capella, by all students on stage.
Over 1,000 people are expected to attend.
The show is at Hammerson Hall in the Living Arts Centre, 4141 Living Arts Dr., Mississauga.
On Thursday, May 2, doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Tickets are $16.25 (fees and taxes included).
