Music insauga: Uforia
Published April 4, 2013 at 3:49 am
We recently caught up with the Mississauga band Uforia that won the Hard Rock Rising competition.
For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 140 characters:
Our music is hard rock done tastefully. We sound like a pop version of Tool or a mixture of Billy Talent meets Greenday with Chili Peppers.
Ten years from now you will be….
Ten years from now we will be Canadian Icons. We’ll be touring around the world and doing our part to save it from evil and corruption.
If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?
I would want to open for Billy Talent. I think their crowd would like us.
What is your Mississauga connection?
I’ve lived in Mississauga my whole life. Went to school here, I work here, I play here.
So, what’s your favourite thing to do when you aren’t doing your music?
I like spending time with my family and friends. I also like going out making new friend, sports, video game
What’s your favourite place in Mississauga to perform and why?
I like playing at Cuchulainn’s in Streetsville because the crowd loves rock music, the host of Tuesday’s open mic Matt Zadkovich is an amazing and talented guy and it’s close to home.
Where do you draw inspiration from when you write your lyrics and what’s your favourite part about the process?
I usually write the instrumental for a song first. The music usually inspires the words. I also take lyrics from personal relationships with family, friends and lovers. My favorite part is creating the hook to the song and testing it out on friends to see if it sticks.
Who are your favourite musicians? Why?
My favorite musicians are Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart. Not only have they created the greatest band ever (RUSH), they’ve maintained a close friendship for over 40 years and are still the nicest people in the world. That amazes me.
What are the five things you can’t live without?
Water, food, a bed, a guitar and my iPhone.
Anything you want to plug?
We just won Hard Rock Rising and are representing Toronto and Canada in an international competition. We are playing at Cherry Cola’s April 3rd and the Drake Hotel May 6th.
