For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 140 characters:

Smooth R&B with a touch of jazz and old school hip hop. A charismatic mixture of vibrant synths, wicked bass and addictive melodic riffs.

Ten years from now musically you’ll be…

Writing and producing music for other artists in my own studio.

If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?

I would love to open for Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Tour.

So, what’s your favourite thing to do when you aren’t doing your music?

When I’m not working on music, my favourite thing to do is to grab a bite with my friends and watch movies.

What is your Mississauga connection?

This is where I grew up. I went to high school here and made a handful of best friends. I spend most of my time working at a shoe store in Square One (Little Burgundy). This city is my place for inspiration. There is talent and motivation everywhere and it’s beautiful to live in a city that promotes the art.

What’s your favourite place in Mississauga to perform and why?

Surprisingly, so far I only performed in Toronto at local venues. If I were to mention a place that I’ve performed in Mississauga it would be at home, haha. It’s very special because that’s where all of the real work is created and practiced. However, with the Gem Piece EP release this year, I will be performing more often in and around Mississauga.

Where do you draw inspiration from when you write your lyrics and what’s your favourite part about the process?

I draw inspiration from the situations that go about in my life and also what I see happening in the outer world. Anything that can catch my attention and quicken my heartbeat triggers my initiative to write. Whether it’s something I read from a book or an actual experience. Where ever I am and whatever time it may be, I will make sure to write down how I feel at that very moment and I expand on it. My favourite part about the process is actually getting it down on paper and having an idea or direction to where I want to take this one song. That’s how the entire Gem Piece EP came about. It started with one song which led to a collection of songs. Each song is represented by a gem piece..an experience. Put that all together, you have yourself a full gem.

Who are your favourite musicians? Why?

I have so many! To shorten the list I would say J.Cole, Beyonce, Sade, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Aaliyah and Christina Aguilera.  I absolutely love vocal power houses and strong performers. They all have this soulfulness about them and are lyrically well spoken. Their music and production speaks for itself.

What are five things your band can’t live without?

A midi keyboard
– Good food
– Time alone from each other! Haha
– Our laptops…Most of our work is completed with our laptops
– Our music devices

What’s the coolest gig you ever did? Why?

The coolest gig I did was at the El Mocambo in Toronto.  It was an end of the year show my Independent Music Production class pulled together. Each of us performed and we brought in a hell of a crowd.

Anything you want to plug?

Keep watch for awesome visuals for the Gem Piece EP.  There is allot of work going into them right now and the EP will be brought to life. devaney.bandcamp.com/
