Several museums in Oshawa are showing their support for the 500 or so General Motors workers who woke up Monday without a job by offering free admission to all current and former GM employees all through February.
The Canadian Automotive Museum was the first to make the offer, with board member Greg Johnston saying current and former auto workers simply have to present their GN ID at the front desk to receive complimentary admission.
“We are proud of Oshawa’s automotive legacy that spans more than a century,” Johnston said.
The Canadian Tank Museum was next to follow the lead by inviting all current and former GM Oshawa Assembly staff to enjoy free admission to the museum during February.
The Oshawa Museum on the city’s waterfront also joined in to support the laid off workers.
“Oshawa’s automotive legacy spans over 100 years, and its legacy is as strong as those who have worked in the factories through the decades,” the museum said in a post on its socials, adding that the story of industrial workers and unionism is part of the feature exhibit, Untold Oshawa, on display in Robinson House.
“Present your GM ID at Guy House and receive complimentary admission. Thank you to those who made Oshawa Canada’s Motor City.”
