Police have made a fifth arrest and are still searching for two suspects wanted in the murder Giovanni Costa north of Brampton, with a $50,000 reward being offered.

The fatal home invasion shooting happened shortly after midnight on Jan. 18, 2021, when the OPP says multiple suspects forced their way into the home of 65-year-old Costa on Harvest Moon Drive in Bolton.

He was asleep inside the home along with his adult son, Michael, and both were shot during the break-in. Giovanni was pronounced dead at the scene.

Months before Giovanni’s murder, Michael was injured in another shooting outside a Vaughan café. That shooting happened in November 2020, and police couldn’t comment on whether it was Giovanni, his son or both who were the target of the 2021 attack.

Police have offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction, and say a fifth suspect was arrested and charged with first-degree murder earlier this month.

Damion Ryan, 45, of Ottawa, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempt murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on April 13.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Waheed Barakziye, 48, of London, and police also say Filmon Fesshaghirgis, 27, of London, is wanted on an Ontario-wide warrant.

Both are facing charges of first-degree murder, attempt murder and conspiracy to commit murder, and are known to frequent London and the Greater Toronto Area.

Police are urging members of the public not to approach the suspects, and say to contact officers immediately if they are seen.

Surveillance cameras captured video of the suspects on the day of the killing, showing an older black BMW 3-series sedan driving by the home. The footage cuts to two suspects approaching the Costa home before disappearing from view.

When the footage cuts again, the suspects can be seen running from the home.

The province is offering a $50,000 reward for information that led to an arrest, and anyone with information about this incident can contact the OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
