A Brampton man who was shot to death Wednesday in broad daylight in a busy industrial area of northeast Mississauga was the victim of a targeted shooting, police say.

Harjeet Dhadda, 51, was approached by a man and “shot multiple times” shortly before noon in the parking lot of a small business plaza in the area of Tranmere Drive and Telford Way, just north of Toronto Pearson Airport and east of Dixie and Derry roads, police said.

Peel Paramedics told INsauga.com on Wednesday shortly after the killing that the victim was shot six times and died on the way to hospital.

“At this time, it is believed that this was a targeted shooting,” Peel Regional Police said in a news release on Friday.

Harjeet Dhadda, 51, of Brampton, was shot multiple times and killed on Wednesday outside a Mississauga business near Toronto Pearson Airport.

Police added the suspects — they didn’t specify how many people they’re searching for — fled the scene in a stolen 2018 black Dodge Challenger. The getaway car was recovered by police shortly after the shooting.

Homicide investigators are seeking help from the public in tracking down those responsible for the murder.

Anyone with information, including those who may have been in the area and have video footage, is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

Police said investigators “are also aware of unverified information circulating online and in the media regarding the possible motive.

They’re “urging the public to refrain from speculation as this remains an active investigation, and all potential leads will be thoroughly examined,” police added.

Speaking to the media from the busy airport-area scene on Wednesday afternoon, a Peel police spokesperson said patrol officers first on the scene “rendered assistance” to Dhadda, who a short time later succumbed to his injuries.
